“Move Over Law to Expand”

In Florida, you must move to the farthest lane away from any emergency vehicle, including Road Rangers, sanitation vehicles, utility service vehicles, and construction vehicles.

Starting on January 1, 2024, that law will be expanded.

Governor DeSantis signed HB 425, which will require you to move over away from all disabled vehicles that are stalled on the side of the road with their hazard lights on or with emergency flares or signage.

If you cannot move over, you must reduce your speed to 20 mph less than the posted speed limit.

Florida will be the 17th state to add the move-over law to disabled vehicles.

The new law is common sense and should have been observed without a law. But with all the reckless, speeding drivers putting all of us in peril, compliance with any move-over law is sketchy at best.
