“A Glorious Milestone and a Disappointing Loss”

In the last few days, we’ve experienced a glorious milestone and a disappointing loss.

First, the Glorious.

The celebration of Freedom 250 across America was a grand acknowledgment not only of significant achievements over the past 250 years, but, just as important, the freedom we still enjoy today. The Washington, D.C., State Fair and the record-setting, spectacular fireworks that my wife and I experienced in person will be a lifetime memory for sure.

On the flip side, we had high hopes for Team USA and their FIFA World Cup match-up with Belgium. After all the Red Card controversy, Belgium made quite a statement against our full squad with their 4-1 statement victory.

Certainly, the last few days were a roller coaster of emotions.

Nonetheless, it’s still a great time to be an American.

Bill Bunkley is a 20-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs on weekdays from 3 to 5 pm across central Florida. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 30 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. In 2025, he underwent successful open-heart surgery to repair a heart valve. His wife is Toni, his son is Zac, and he attends Idlewild Baptist Church.
