“Did the Heartbeat Bill Nosedive Florida Abortions?

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Wednesday, July 16, 2025

On May 1, 2024, Florida’s heartbeat prohibition became law. That’s when the Florida Supreme Court granted its approval.

According to online stats from the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, 21,572 abortions were reported this year as of July 1st, which is down from 36,221 abortions for the first six months in 2024.

That’s down 40.4%.

Although this is an encouraging reduction, there are some factors to consider in context.

These statistics are based on numbers that are self-reported by abortion providers themselves, which I have never considered very accurate.

Most unborn babies today are terminated by the dispensing of two dangerous abortion pills, rather than surgical abortions. Many Florida abortions go unreported because abortion pills can be mail-ordered from out of state.

Banning abortion pills would be the real game-changer.
