“Moon Shot: Memories of a 13 Year Old”

Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About

Saturday we all looked back 50 years when our first astronauts touched the surface of the moon for the very first time. Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module “Eagle” Pilot Buzz Aldrin took those heroic steps while Michael Collins circled above.

If you were born back then, where were you when that historic event unfolded?

For me I was a 13 year lad who was fascinated with anything space travel. It was after dark as I remember, as mom, dad and me huddled in our living room, eyes fixed on our black and white TV.

My room had about every space craft model kit ever made. Many hung from the ceiling of my room.

I bet that was the same for some of you.

Take time to tell your kids and grandkids all about your Apollo 11 experience. It is eyewitness oral history that preserves the stories of history best.

I’m Bill Bunkley. Catch my show weekdays at 4. Get the latest local and Florida updates by following @wtbn on twitter, or like us on Facebook @ wtbnAM.
