The arrival of either the summer or winter Olympic Games is usually when the world comes together, setting aside their differences and enjoying the competition among nations.
This year, the Summer Olympic Games is shaping up as a hot spot for distractions away from the competition: vandalism, potential violent demonstrations, and the safety of the athletes, with a particular focus on team Israel.
I can vividly remember the tragic 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. The photo of the Black September hooded terrorist on the balcony is forever etched in my mind. Twelve Israeli athletes were senselessly murdered.
Threats have already been posted against Israeli athletes. There can be no holes in Olympic security.
It’s a shame, as we check daily for the medal count for Team USA; we’re also keeping a close eye on any news on the bad guys.
