“Unelected Federal Bureaucrats Block Pinellas Beaches Renourishment”
Once again, unelected Federal bureaucrats are overstepping their authority and changing the rules midstream.
Pinellas County beaches are overdue for and in need of beach renourishment. Seasonal hurricanes and other storms have eaten away their shorelines.
The Army Corps of Engineers is blocking renourishment for Sand Key, due this year, Treasure Island, two years overdue, and Pass-a-Grill Beach, which was to begin last fall.
The Army Corps is arbitrarily changing a 1986 Federal Law. Until now, Gulf Front landowners never had to sign away their easements to the Feds to renourish the beaches. The Corps has created a new rule, not a revised law, making landowners sign away 100% of their Gulf easements before renourishment. That’s not going to happen.
That’s wrong. President Biden, reign in your unelected Army Corps of Engineers now.
