“Why Are Florida Auto Insurance Rates Soaring”
If you have recently received your auto insurance renewal, you were shocked to see a meteoric rise in your premium.
So, what’s up?
You are paying a premium to live in the sunny, Free State of Florida. Auto insurance rates here have jumped 40% above the national average.
National rates are up 17%, while an average policy in Florida runs about $3,100 a year.
The reasons for the soaring rate increases include a rise in the number of accidents, fraudulent lawsuits, rising medical costs, and body shop repairs. Also, insurance losses on all the vehicles lost in last year’s Hurricane Ian event have been passed on to all of us.
The cost of living in paradise continues to climb skyward and is troubling for our seniors and young people, so much so that some will have to leave Florida for a cheaper place to live.
Bill Bunkley is a 17-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities.
