“Where Are Florida’s New Residents Moving To”
Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About
It’s no secret retires and others are flocking to Florida in droves.
Sunshine, beaches, rivers and a zero state income tax are the principal attractions. But where in the state are they flocking to?
Number one on the list according to the Census Bureau is Hillsborough County.
Hillsborough led the state with 38,359 new arrivals in 2017. Palm Beach County was number two at 37,154, followed in order by Orange, Pinellas and Lee Counties.
Florida’s new residents are arriving from California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York and Ohio. The common denominator: they all have state income taxes.
And thanks to a vibrant tourist industry Florida visitors and new residents are supplanting the need for a state income tax as they contribute to state sales and bed taxes.
