Reaction to the name Robert E. Lee is getting quite the attention these days.
Some of the attention is good and appropriate; some is just ridiculous.
A shout out to the Hillsborough County School Board, who at a workshop is holding firm to a previous policy that calls for a waiting period 18 months when renaming a school. They have two schools that are bearing Lee’s name.
On the other hand, ESPN again is displaying that when they get involved in the issues arena, they always suffer a shutout.
This time ESPN NCAA football announcer Robert Lee was pulled from calling the game between the University of Virginia and William & Mary because his name might offend someone.
The young Robert Lee is Asian-American, didn’t have slaves and didn’t fight in the Civil War. Go figure.
Hillsborough County School Board gets full kudos on this one.
