Have you ever given any thought about what legacy you will leave behind? Is it important what others will remember about you after you pass on?
I enjoy walking through older cemeteries and reading the descriptions on the headstones of the people interred there, and I wonder what might be said of me after I am called up to Heaven.
Your legacy will be composed of much more than the total of your last financial statement. A meaningful legacy is built on how we treat others. Were we kind or short with others? Were we an inspiration or a buzz kill? Did we demonstrate good character or ruthless self-centeredness? Did we walk with integrity? Was our faithfulness to God evident?
In the Bible’s Proverbs, 22:1 we are reminded that “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
Which legacy are you choosing?
Bill Bunkley is a 19-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays from 3 to 6 pm across central Florida. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 29 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is today a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. His wife is Toni, son is Zac, and they attend Idlewild Baptist Church.
