“Idalia: She Isn’t Finished Yet”
Hurricane Idalia came ashore at 7:45 AM EDT at gulf front Keaton Beach, a community of 13,000 in Taylor County, 75 miles southeast of Tallahassee.
The National Hurricane Center estimates Idalia came in as a Cat 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph.
The Big Ben area got hit hard.
Storm surge of 12-16 feet hit the Aucilla River to Yankee Town, 7-11 feet from Yankeetown to Chassahowitzka, and 6-9 feet from Chassahowitzka down to the Anclote River in Tarpon Springs. Tampa Bay areas flooded.
Idelia’s storm surge isn’t over; we expect another high tide in the afternoon. Rain bans and tornado watches continued throughout today.
Water rescues, down power lines, and road debris removal operations are underway.
Please remain home, today’s not a day for sightseeing. Stay out of the way of first responders.
Hurricane Idalia isn’t finished yet.
