“Idalia: Day 3 Recovery”

Hurricane Idalia stalked Florida’s peninsula, torn into Big Ben’s Nature Coast, sliced through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina before exiting into the Atlantic, leaving a path of destruction.  

Today’s the first full day of recovery operations for state and local governments, businesses, and homeowners.

Everybody has a story today, from simply drinking your morning coffee to raking up a few leaves to moving belongings outside to dry while ripping out the drywall.

Water is still receding. Florida’s critters also felt the impact. Be mindful of open doors near water-impacted areas. Raccoons, armadillos, water moccasins, and rattlesnakes are looking for new places to hang out. 

And be careful with the chainsaws, debris removal, and electrical issues.

Post-hurricane injuries and deaths are always part of the story.      

Bill Bunkley is a 17-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 27 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is today a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. His wife is Toni, son is Zac, and they attend Idlewild Baptist Church.
