It’s Labor Day Weekend.

The extended weekend marks one of the oldest rites of passage as we salute the heartbeat of our nation, the American worker.

The weekend marks the official end of summer. It’s our official adjustment to get back to the routines of life.

What’s special about Labor Day?

It recognizes early agricultural workers who grew and exported cotton and tobacco, those on Henry Ford’s revolutionizing assembly line who gave labor to the industrial revolution, the women who worked on World War II airplane, tank and vehicle production lines and the service industry workers of today. Their contributions and economic impact are vital components contributing to the greatness of America.   

Let’s give thanks for our past and present workers, the heart of America.         

Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
