Birthdays are always a special day to celebrate our birth into this world.

As a Christian, I have a second birthday, the day I became “Born Again” by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior.

But I’m also blessed to celebrate yet a third annual birthday today at 9:18 AM. A previous AML Leukemia diagnosis left me to undertake a risky bone marrow cell transplant at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Today marks two years since I received my “third” new life from a courageous donor who gave me her gift of life.

I say a courageous donor because she agreed to fly from South Carolina, as Hurricane Florence was moving in, all the way to Los Angeles, to extract her bone marrow stem cells to give me a chance to live.   

And that was an extraordinary commitment to save my life.

Bill Bunkley is a 14-year veteran Salem Radio Network talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 PM. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
