The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center needs to expand. 

Florida ranks second for the number of cancer cases in the entire country and Moffitt has outgrown their current facilities both for patient care and research.

They receive about 68,000 patients annually not only from the U.S. but from 133 different countries. But their available hospital beds have not increased in 12 years.

Moffitt has a need for new research space as they partner with an ever-increasing number of biotech companies relocating here.

I urge the legislature next session to consider increasing Moffitt’s funding by $11 million from cigarette tax revenue for additional hospital beds, plus an additional $11 million to equip their new life sciences research facility opening in Pasco County.

Cancer must be defeated.
