Everyone living on the Florida peninsula has their own “Irma Perspective” about the impact the hurricane had on their lives.

For many in the wide path of Irma, her journey points to a harrowing period of uncertainty followed by a time of major disruption. For others, she represents utter destruction and a total loss of everything. Even today, thousands, maybe millions, find themselves somewhere between those two perspectives.    

That’s why a comment by a colleague in our local media seemed so out of place, rejoicing how great it was to have a weekend without a hurricane.

Quite honestly, that’s not an Irma perspective scores across Florida can relate to. 

For them, Hurricane Irma is not over.  

For us who suffered little, let us not so quickly forget the pain, the suffering, the displacement of so many who certainly are far from celebrating a hurricane-free weekend.
