“Helene Will Intensify Very Quickly: Be Prepared”

It’s that time of year to watch the development of tropical cyclones. Next up is Helene, and she will have a powerful impact when she comes ashore here in Florida.

Helene is poised to be a wide storm when it comes to the extent of the distance from the center of the hurricane and tropical force winds. She’s estimated to be a Cat 3 hurricane at landfall, but if recent history prevails, she could rapidly increase to a Cat 4 just before coming ashore.

Keep an eye on the cone of impact.

One huge impact will be the storm surge. Storm surge warnings are up throughout Florida’s vast Gulf Coast, including the Florida Keys. If you live along the coast or inland bays and rivers, be prepared for several feet of surge to impact you.

Look for inland flash flooding because of torrential rains.

Be prepared; be sure your hurricane supplies are complete.
