Both Colin Kaepernick, his fellow athletes and President Trump all need an immediate course correction.
I support an athlete’s 1st Amendment right to protest our Stars & Stripes and our National Anthem. But it is terribly misguided to do so.
These National Anthem protests will only bring increased controversy and national division; not the meaningful reforms they seek. They’re polarizing far too many Americans and veterans, veterans who served Old Glory, took a bullet, took an IED or paid the ultimate sacrifice. The athletes made their point; it’s time to redirect their advocacy.
As for President Trump, he has a right to express his views, but there is no excusing his public cursing against Kaepernick and others. The President should retract those words and apologize.

Continuing down this road by both sides will only further divide our nation.
