“Ian is the Real Deal”

After years of dodging the bullet and watching hurricanes travel past Florida’s west coast, it appears our turn has arrived.

As a native Floridian born in Tampa, I’ve watched and experienced every storm to impact our area. My advice, take heed; Hurricane Ian is the real deal. And we will be impacted.

Please don’t make a foolish choice about not preparing, riding it out, or having a hurricane party. Ian could be deadly, especially for those who are foolish.

Remember two crucial hurricane concepts: hide from winds and run from water.

Hide from hurricane winds in a sturdy, strong shelter, NOT in a mobile home.

And don’t play around with Ian’s storm surge of water. If you’re in an evacuation zone, run, get out.

Evacuate early and beat the rush.

Be safe, others oriented, and we’ll all get through Ian with stories to tell.

Bill Bunkley is a 16-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 26 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is today a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. His wife is Toni, son is Zac, and they attend Idlewild Baptist Church.
