The rite of passage along the campaign trail to the White House are the Presidential debates
The most critical debate in the series is the first one, which will make history today. The first debate draws in the most television viewers, which creates tremendous pressure for the candidates to make a superior impression.
Will it be President Trump or former VP Biden who will take the prize for the most memorable one-liner. Who will be the best in command of the broad range of issues? Who will be the best at specifically pointing out aspects of their opponent's record?
It’s impossible to predict how this first debate will unfold. But it is the debate that sets the final tone before voters head to the polls.
And a good night could seal the deal in the mind of voters.
Bill Bunkley is a 14-year veteran Salem Radio Network talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 PM. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
