“Why A Government Shutdown”
Once again, a federal government shutdown is a 911 emergency for congressional lawmakers.
But why?
Members of Congress continue to be derelict in their duties. They repeatedly fail to review and allocate your tax dollars each year to pay government debts.
In fact, in almost 50 years, Congress has passed required appropriations measures on time only four times: 1977, 1989, 1995, and 1997. No wonder we have massive waste and fraud in unaccounted-for federal government spending.
Managing the nation’s purse strings is arguably the most essential job of federal lawmakers.
Passing short-term, continuing resolutions to avoid government shutdowns only rolls over previous bloated budget agreements and is wholly unacceptable.
Repeatedly kicking the can down the road is not a responsible solution.
Americans deserve better.
