“The People’s House is Closed for Business”  

The People’s House is closed for business thanks to eight Republicans who joined every Democrat to kick out Speaker Kevin McCarthy. 

 Last week, we worried about a government shutdown; this week, we got a House of Representatives shutdown. Committees can still meet, but there is no official chamber business until they get a new Speaker.

 All this because Speaker McCarthy very foolishly agreed to amend House Rules to allow just one member, just one, to call for his removal. Naively, he never thought Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz would pull that trigger. Nancy Pelosi promised she would see to it that Democrats wouldn’t support it.

 Well, Matt Gaetz did, and Pelosi lied to McCarthy.

 Pelosi immediately got booted out of her choice House office digs, Gaetz put his fundraising in overdrive.

 And Republicans stick it to themselves once again.

Bill Bunkley is a 17-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm.
