“Is Nuclear Armageddon Immanent”
In 1962 I was in the third grade attending Tampa Bay Elementary School. That was when the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, challenged President John F. Kennedy by shipping nuclear-armed missiles to Cuba. It was a 13-day standoff.
Preparing for the possibility of a nuclear attack here in Tampa included bringing water bottles and blankets to school. At school, when the alarm sounded, I responded to the drill by quickly crawling under my desk. I remember those days as if it was yesterday.
The standoff ended, and the Soviets withdrew their nuclear weapons.
Today President Biden is warning of Nuclear Armageddon at the hands of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Both men making decisions about nuclear is very troubling for different reasons.
We must ask God to protect us all.
