After hours of protest by Senate Democrats and accolades from Senate Republicans, Judge Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to sit on the United States Supreme Court.
The Senate’s Republican members voted to confirmed Barrett. No Democrat Senators supported her nomination.
That’s in sharp contrast to past super majority bi-partisan votes confirming two Justices with diametrically opposed judicial philosophies: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg was approved by a vote of 96 to 3, and Justice Antonin Scalia 98 to 0.
The vote signals the politicization of the Supreme Court.
If Democrats in the future pack the court, adding additional liberal judges to ensure their majority, the court will become a second legislative body.
And that would blow up the Constitutional balance of powers.
