“Diversity vs Merit Based Green Cards”
Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About
As details become clearer about the granting of a State Department Diversity green card to the New York rental truck terrorist, it’s time to reconsider that program.
Also known as “the green card lottery,” about 2 million people apply for 50,000 green cards each year. The number of green cards awarded amounts to around 100,000, as family members of the 50,000 winners get to come to America as well.
The stated purpose is to diversify our immigrant population by choosing the winners from countries with low rates of USA immigration.
But should we be granting visas based on diversity or should they be merit-based, granted depending on one’s qualifications in their educational or background expertise that matches the academic, research, employment or business deficiencies here in our America?
With internet sourced terror radicalization on the rise, it would be wise to stick to merit-based green cards.
