The 2024 Presidential election may be the most extraordinary contest in modern history.
It features a wildly popular former republican President facing no less than four separate politically motivated civil and criminal trials, an 81-year-old severely cognitively challenged democrat incumbent and a compelling, results-oriented republican governor from Florida.
If the election were held today, polling shows former President Trump beating Governor DeSantis here in Florida by a wide margin of 59% to 29%.
Five separate polls agree Trump beats Biden by 2 to 4 points.
Why the Trump support?
It’s situational support. Against all odds, voters increasingly stand with Trump because they believe he’s been unfairly persecuted by judicial activists for exercising his right to contest the 2020 election, a headwind DeSantis has yet to tame.
Bill Bunkley is an 18-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 27 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. He is a Realtor Emeritus. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is today a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. His wife is Toni, son is Zac, and they attend Idlewild Baptist Church.
