The voice that counted in the Judge Roy Moore controversy spoke; and Democrat Doug Jones won by the narrowest margins.
That voice was the people of Alabama.
Just before the election, the major polls were essentially wrong. One had Judge Moore up by 10 points; another had him down by 10 points.
I thought Moore would win. I was wrong.
I based my opinion on a poll that indicated 70% plus of Alabamians thought the charges against Moore were questionable. I thought a majority was there for the judge.
Well if there was a Republican majority, that majority, in the end, decided to be silent and stay home.
On the other hand, Doug Jones motivated a big turnout of African American votes in the urban cities, and that eked him across the finish line to victory.
And so it ends in Alabama, for now.
