It’s the last week before Christmas, and if you’re thinking about acquiring a last-minute EV or hybrid vehicle gift for your loved one, don’t.
But if you do, lease it or plan to dump it long before the battery warranty expires. If not, it may be more cost-effective to junk it than pay out-of-pocket to replace the battery.
Case in point.
An Arizona man took his 2014 Infiniti hybrid with only 70,000 miles to a dealer for a check engine light. His car needed a new battery.
The man’s jaw dropped when he was quoted $18,000 for the battery and $2,000 to install it!
Electric and hybrid batteries usually run $1,000 to $8,000 plus installation and are warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
Ultimately, the man asked himself, does he have $20,000 or a pile of scrap metal in his driveway?
As for me and my house, we’ll stick with the Lord’s fossil fuel.
