 “The American Healthcare Act”

Bill Bunkley with Today’s Something To Think About

On Christmas Eve 2009 the United States Senate passed Obamacare on a 60 to 39 vote. Not a single Republican voted for the bill.

After eight long years and a stunning repudiation of the Democrat Party and President Obama, the House of Representatives released their first “replacement plan” markup called the American Healthcare Act.

From this point forward the Republicans have taken political ownership of healthcare in America, and they had better get it right.

Gone are the mandates, taxes, and penalties for noncompliance and abortion coverage. Pre-existing conditions are still covered as well as kids on their parent’s plan until age 26.

But controversial subsidies convert into age-based tax credits up to $14,000 per family, that some will say is “Obamacare Lite.”

So how much will it cost and who loses coverage?

That’s the devil in the details.
