One of the biggest names in Christian music, Phil Wickham, has released the official lyric video for this beautiful Christmas song, “Shepherd Boy.”
When people think of a king, they typically imagine everything decorated in gold, excessive wealth, mansions and hundreds of people who respond to their every beck and call. Kings are usually concerned only about themselves and not for anyone else’s welfare. Royalty would never associate with members of the servant class and others of low social status.
When He came to Earth, Jesus Christ, who is the King of Kings, did everything the opposite usually thought of royalty. He cared for and about sinners and associated with those considered the lowest of the low in society. He wasn’t born in a mansion or a castle but to a virgin in a lowly manger surrounded by barnyard animals.
Also, some of the first people to learn of Christ’s birth on that most holy night were those attending to their sheep in the fields. In his new song “Shepherd Boy,” Phil captures the night of Christ’s birth from the perspective of a shepherd boy.
Both the song and the lyric video are absolutely beautiful. They are likely to bring tears to your eyes as they tell of the night that changed everything forever for everyone. The song perfectly captures the utter joy and happiness that all must have felt that night after learning that God’s Son had finally arrived.
Like the rest of the tune, the song's chorus is beautifully written.
“Glory to God in the highest
Peace to His people here on Earth
For the Savior is born
Emmanuel, God is with us”
This is sure to be a Christmas song that you add to your seasonal rotation and listen to it every Christmas season.
