Recently, the war has dominated the news, sucking the air out of the newsroom for other important issues.

One of those issues is the current 60-day Session of the Florida Legislature. Both the Florida House and Senate are not only far apart on the one issue they are mandated to address during the session, the 2026 fiscal budget, but there are also sharp divides between the chambers on a host of issues.

The feud between Governor DeSantis and the Speaker of the Florida House, Daniel Perez, is not cooling, with the Governor’s priorities now shelved in the House.  

Any action on Property Tax relief will be put off until a special session in April.

And it looks like the budget won't be finalized in time for the regular session to end next week.

Not good news.

Bill Bunkley is a 20-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs on weekdays from 3 to 5 pm across central Florida. In 2025, he underwent successful open-heart surgery to repair a heart valve. His wife is Toni, his son is Zac, and he attends Idlewild Baptist Church.
