“Florida Homeowners Associations Could Be Eliminated”

Everyone in a community with a Homeowners Association, an HOA, has a story to tell about the “Lords of the Neighborhood.”

Stories like not painting your home with the approved color scheme, or residents who scam the system by repeatedly reporting their disliked neighbors to the HOA police.

Now, HOAs could be eliminated under a new bill in Tallahassee.

Florida House Rep. Ron Portas filed HB 657, giving homeowners the power, through a process, to fire or significantly cut back overbearing HOA oversight.

Two outcomes are apparent if HOAs are eliminated: homeowners would be “free at last” to use their property as they see fit, and property values could decline due to overall neighborhood deterioration. 

I'll keep a close eye on this ongoing debate.
