Soon a major airport in Florida will get a name change.

Two bills are moving through the legislature in Tallahassee: HB 919 passed the full Florida House and SB 706 is heading for that chamber’s approval. The bills would change the name of Palm Beach International Airport to President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

If passed, the legislature would have the authority to override the state’s county commissions and rename all of Florida’s major commercial airports. The Palm Beach name change cost is estimated to be $2.75 million to $5.5 million to change signage, websites and emergency messaging systems. PBI would remain the International Air Transport Association designation.

Democrats oppose the change but are outnumbered in both chambers.
