“Fidel Castro & Cuban Regime Change”

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Friday, May 22, 2026

67 years ago, Fidel Castro took power in Cuba on January 1, 1959.

Fidel promised democracy, free and fair elections, the restoration of the Cuban Constitution, the end of dictatorship, freedom of speech and the press, restoration of civil liberties, and economic prosperity, even as he repeatedly denied being a Communist.

He lied.

In late May 1961, Castro declared himself a “Marxist-Leninist” and transformed Cuba into a totalitarian state, aligning with Nikita Khrushchev and the Soviet Union.

As a student at Tampa Bay Elementary School, I remember October 16 to October 28, 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis, bringing water bottles and blankets to school, and drills under the school desks in case of attack.

I am happy brother Raúl Castro is indicted and ready for regime change.
