“Florida Property Tax Reduction: The Voters Will Decide”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”
Air Date Wednesday, June 3, 2026
The Republican supermajority in the Florida House and Senate, along with Governor DeSantis, reached an agreement to pass a property tax reduction for voters to consider in this November’s election.
Final tweaking of the bill provided for a primary residential homestead exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027, then to $250,000 in 2028, excluding school district levies. The annual non-homestead max assessment cap would drop from 10% down to 5%. The remaining property tax revenues must be used exclusively for core public safety: police, fire, EMS, public infrastructure, education, and natural resources, including flood control protections.
That is, IF Florida voters say yes to the tax-reduction package by more than 60% come November.
I believe they will.
